Portland Waterfront

I decided to take pictures along Portland's "working waterfront" today. We had mostly clear skies, and it was really nice out.

A few pictures of some of the working waterfront.

Here are some pictures of boats along Commercial St.

Strange pictures of rust.

And more pictures of boats

Some buildings in the waterfront district.

More and more boats.

And more still..

Few more buildings

Mostly boats again..it was a boat day.

Just two more, that's enough boats for awhile.

Ending it with some updated Asylum graffiti. I caught them again..

Portland

Again, a walk in Portland. Since I rarely leave the city anymore, it seems I take pictures within walking distance more than anything.

This always catches my eye. I don't know why, but I seem to like rust a lot.

I also like taking random shots of graffiti. I guess I'm just a little jealous..I have always enjoyed being up on roofs. My bedroom, when I was growing up, had a window to a roof, and I'd sit out on it often. It's one of my favorite places to go..

I'm also fascinated by fire escapes. Going up along the side of a building, or being on a roof seem like lots of fun.

They're redoing the wall on the back of the Asylum. I'm quite disappointed that parts of it seem like an advertisement for cereal? It was pretty cool to catch them "in the act" though. Still, I'm glad I took pictures of it before it was redone. A few pictures of the old wall. I look forward to seeing the end result and will go back a few more times to continue photographing the progress.

Now for some random shots.

Portland Brewery Tours - Shipyard and Allagash

Since I had the day off, I decided to do something productive..like have free beer. We first headed to Shipyard Brewing Company, and then we headed to Allagash Brewery.

Shipyard: The tour was incredibly short, though we didn't get to watch much of the movie because the tour started before we arrived (and we were on time, boo!). Since they do tours every hour, there were only 3 of us on the tour. We sampled 5 beers. My favorites were the Summer, Export, and Old Thumper.

Allagash: Their tour only happens once a day, so there was a large crowd. They start off with the beer tasting, and then move onto the tour, unlike Shipyard. I would highly recommend this tour due to the beer tasting alone. We tried 6 beers, it would've been 5, but one of the people on the tour asked about a specific beer and then we sampled that one as well. ^_^ My favorites were Allagash White (of course), and Dubbel. Tripel reminded me of Sake, which I was never really fond of, but Curieux I did like. Curieux is Tripel, aged 8 weeks in Jim Beam Barrels..it certainly did change the flavor a lot. Four was okay, and Black was pretty good. It's hard to go wrong with Belgian style beers. In fact, I think this has inspired me to possibly visit Belgium while I'm in Europe next month.
