Updates to come

I see I haven't touched this in quite some time. Will be sorting through pictures from my recent travels to Thailand and Australia in the coming weeks.

Update

I don't usually update just to update, but I figured since it's been awhile, I would.

Truth: I haven't been so much into photography lately. Amazingly enough, after the purchase of my new camera, and the fact that my old camera broke, I lost a lot of desire to take pictures. I miss my old camera still, and haven't had time to put into learning the new camera. I know that most of my problems would be solved if I bought a better lens, one zooms in too much for close-up shots, and is a fixed lens, the other zooms in even further and is only used as a zoom lens. I need to get one with a normal range to practice with!

Of course finances are shaky, and I'm spending money on things for biking and my upcoming trips to Atlanta, GA, Canada, and Germany to be taken respectively this year (May, August, September). I guess I just have a lot planned/on my plate, including bicycle training (bringing it to Germany with me) and learning German.

What is the meaning of life though? I like to enjoy it as it comes, and that's just the way it is right now. Not much time for photography at the moment. I love photography though, and will be taking plenty of pictures on my vacations. A time and a place for everything then! I'm sure I'll be back soon for another update with actual pictures. :)

Oh..may as well add, I'm a published photographer now. I submitted some pictures to a magazine last summer and a photo was accepted and published in the end of the year issue. I will have to compile more pictures to send around to other magazines soon. :)

Back from Alaska

I'll be posting a bit of a photo journal for my trip to Alaska here soon. I will post them on each specific day, as I've been doing in the past. I think it helps to keep the format correct. Sure, I didn't post the pictures the same day (usually), that I post an entry in here, but I did take the pictures that day, so it works out better in my opinion! Enough about that though.. the Alaska entries will be below this one, so keep an eye out. I will try to start adding soon. This will be a busy week for me since I'll also be showing my photography at the Munjoy Hill Festival aka Munjfest next weekend.

Disappointed

I'm a bit disappointed, but I have spoken with Canon's customer support, and it seems I need to send it in for repairs.

I can shoot without the flash, or manually pop it up if I need it, but that will most likely further damage it. I only hope that by doing that I haven't ruined it to the point where they consider it abuse of some sort and won't fix it.

My issue really, is that it's summer. I don't want to miss out on any photo opportunities, which I'm sure to. I don't want to get the camera back just before I go on my vacation to Alaska, and then have no idea what I'm doing. I'm still learning the camera, and would like to get another lens next month.

I was considering sending it now in hopes that it'd get back by the middle of next month so that I would have the new lens with it, and at least a month to play with it before my trip to Alaska.

If I don't send it now, I'll have to wait until after foliage season..

New Camera!!

I'm so happy! I just ordered my new camera a few days ago, and it just arrived this morning! I still have to wait on the lens, but that should come next week. I bought the Canon EOS Rebel XTi. It's going to be a great entry level SLR for me. I love the fact that I can buy lenses which I'll be able to switch to a newer camera when I upgrade in the future. I won't think about upgrading for a few years though. I think this one will do just fine! It fits so well in my hands too.

It's too bad

I went out a few times and took pictures with my broken camera, just to decide I wasn't really happy with not knowing what setting it's on ever. Spring is one of my favorite seasons of the year, so I feel bad that my camera just happened to break a month or so before it started.

In good news..I've looked over my budget ,and it looks like I'll be able to afford a new camera by the end of this month. I'll be buying my first digital SLR, which really excites me!

When one door closes, another one opens right? I won't miss too much of the spring, and I'll have a new toy to play with soon. :)

Transfer

The journal transfer was a success! A winner is I. Now I have to get to re-doing the gallery section of my website..a complete update is in order.

Yet another website update..

I decided to say screw it to the part of the journal I was stuck on, then moved forward. Now I've come across the post that says "oh I took pictures back in July, here they are" haha..so I guess I never originally posted them when I took them. That solves THAT problem. At least I'm almost to the year 2005 now. My project will soon be complete!! Well..part one of it anyway. I then have to work on 2006 which will be part of my "current" journal. And I have to put up my portraits page.

Another website update

Working on the webpage again. Trying to get this archive done. Now that I've started, I have to finish it, that's just the way I am. Week one is over and I'm still in 2004. I tried to archive all of my old journal before switching to my newer one, but I think I missed some pages during the process. I know I missed a whole month at least.

I also didn't do that well at journaling while I was living in Everett, MA. I do remember posting my Malden night pics, but I don't know when. I also took pictures of Everett, MA and I don't know when.

Website update

I've already fixed most of my photography page, but I have a little more work to do on that. I've FINALLY added an about me section. Then I've added a journal section. That's what I'll be working on today actually. I'm going to write about all of my photo experiences so far this year and maybe include a little picture that can "pop up" with a mouse-over command if someone wants to see a bigger version. I want the journal to be all on one page, but I know it'll eventually get pretty big, so I might just "archive" some of the older journal entries. I'm pretty fortunate to have a massive load of journals from years ago, so I can go into specifics even about when I first started out in photography!

The whole idea of having a one stop place for all of my photography makes me happy. If others can gain from it, that's cool too, but really the archiving is just for me. I've always been a pretty organized person, and the fact that my photography is so organized (for the most part) allows me to feel comfortable going out and taking more pictures. I do feel backed up right now, simply because I need to work on the "portraits" section as well. Unfortunately one of the people that said it was ok to use them on my page, has now backed out saying he only wants pictures where you can't see his face. I took a few pictures of him that were from behind and all this other stuff. I'll share pretty soon because I think they are swell. Unfortunate that for some odd reason they came out a little blurry though. The weather wasn't working with me that day.

Photography almost for sale..

This post is to say, FINALLY.. I'm in the final stage of getting my photography ready for sale. For years I've been wanting to sell my work. For months I've worked on accomplishing it (building website, figuring out how to sell, templates, ordering "practice" prints..etc).
A few days after New Years, the idea hit me. How to "knock out two scorpions with one stone" haha.

The problems I kept running into were:
1. Cropping, print sizing, all whacked.
2. How would I sign my work? Have a company mail me prints to sign, go to a Kinko's and sign and mail..whatnot.

First problem I fixed by ordering Paint Shop Pro 9, and by using a program called JPEGCrops. With these two, and a little help from a web-based ratio calculator, I figured out what sizes my photo's needed to be, to print at my desired size. In doing this, I also decided, I could use my signature from work (just a little jpeg file) and the text feature in PSP, to put in the extended canvas size.. What this means, is I cut out a whole process entirely. When one orders a print, all I have to do, is accept their payment, and pay for the print, and have it directly mailed to the person ordering it.

LIKE WOAH! I guess my brain did come back to life after the holidays..
I've ordered 3 prints with my newly added "features". I have to test how they come out before I sell them, but when I get those back, I may just be ready to have a "prints for sale" page.

Photography Merchandise

I bought a mug and a mouse pad with my work, on Sunday. Snapfish, or shutterfly had less expensive mouse pads, and imagestation.com had really cheap mugs. Now I'll be able to see what my work looks like on two different items.

Finished website..again!

There! I officially have finished with my photography site. There will be updates of course, but for now there is nothing to add. It feels good to complete something. I am also very happy with the way the pages turned out.

Fixing website

I've decided to fix my photography site a bit. It's such a huge process to get everything just right, but I think it will be very rewarding in the end. It'll be nice to have all of my favorites together in one place.

Last group meeting

Saturday is my last meeting with my photo group. Looks like I'm going to have to shut it down. No one wants to be the moderator, and I keep getting new people in too..oh well.

Volunteered for San Jose Rep

I had volunteered to take pictures at an event for the Rep, so I went to San Jose Bar and Grill and took some pictures. I have to edit them, but I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Photography meeting a success!

I put together a meeting for my photo group, the first ever, and PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!! It was very exciting. 4 people showed up, and it was a VERY chilly night. We talked for an hour of things to help the group along. I think it was very very very beneficial, and it makes me glad that I did it.

Some things will change. I'm going to have a meeting once a month. Also, I'm going to advertise once a week. I have a huge list of places and things that people are interested in photographing. I can't wait to get things started :)

Tomorrow since I have the day off, I think I'll set up a photo adventure for next weekend. Should be, DELIGHTFUL.

Photography lost

I lost all of my photography....
I lost one of my cd wallets while travelling..I wasn't so worried about it, didn't really care..I lost games, music, a lot of misc files..but I forgot that I had left the only copy of my photography in that wallet. . . . .I had recently formatted my computer, and was bringing the cd home to show family the pictures I had taken.
I'll get over it..but it's quite a shock..it's really really horrible :/

At least I have some backed up on a webpage, but those are smaller versions then what I was saving..and well..there were many more pictures that I had that I didn't bother uploading. .
so sad..to lose so much that I put so much time and travel and thought into... but I guess I should think of the years ahead of me..and the pictures I will take..and hope that they will come out better..

*sigh*

I hope the small versions of the pictures on my website are enough to make good sized prints with.
..I posted a message in the lost and found section on boston's craigslist... I don't know what else to do :(

Dreaming of taking pictures..

I keep having dreams about taking pictures. I wonder what that's all about. Wasn't long ago that I got into photography, but I've wanted to take pictures for a long time, I just didn't have the means to do it. So now that I am doing it, I have dreams about taking pictures ALL THE TIME. It's really insane. Sometimes I'm having a normal dream, then all of a sudden I either yearn for my camera, or I pull it out and start taking pictures. I think I must be in love with photography as much as I dream about it.
